Our History
The Nakupuna Foundation and Nakupuna Companies build on a lifetime of commitment to public service by our original founder, Warren Nakupuna Ah Loo.
After a distinguished 30-year career as a civil servant, Warren founded Na Aliʻi Consulting & Sales in 2003, seeking to continue supporting the government while aspiring to find ways to help his fellow Native Hawaiians overcome the challenges often encountered during their educational and career pursuits. Na Aliʻi eventually grew into a thriving, successful enterprise that would become the Nakupuna Companies, a family of businesses that continue to solve the government’s toughest challenges and are committed to the betterment of the Native Hawaiian community.
Sadly, Warren passed away shortly before his 68th birthday. In his honor, Na Aliʻi leadership founded the non-profit Nakupuna Foundation, which was approved as a Native Hawaiian Organization (NHO) in 2018. Once certified, the Foundation assumed ownership of Na Aliʻi to ensure it could continue its mission of supporting the Native Hawaiian Community and its values, people, and culture.
Guided by Warren’s vision, the Nakupuna Companies and Nakupuna Foundation continue to expand our ability to deliver tangible benefits to our clients and demonstrable good to the Native Hawaiian community and other causes we support.
What started with Na Aliʻi is now a thriving family of companies, each participating in, graduated from, or preparing to enter the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 8(a) Business Development Program. The non-profit Nakupuna Foundation maintains majority ownership of all Nakupuna Companies, which in turn serve as the main vehicle of support for the Foundation.
The results have been extraordinary. Since the Nakupuna Foundation’s establishment in 2017, the Nakupuna Companies have helped deliver over $11 million in giving to the Foundation’s non-profit partner organizations in the form of scholarships, educational and career projects, veterans assistance, cultural enrichment initiatives, and other programs.
Named in honor of our founder, the Nakupuna Foundation works to promote and advance the Native Hawaiian community through partnerships, programs, and targeted investments.
