Arlington, VA: The Nakupuna Foundation is proud to sponsor the E Ala E Hawaiian Cultural Center, a nonprofit organization whose goal is to educate, engage, and connect hālau (hula groups), hui (groups/clubs), and Hawai’i-focused organizations in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The center hosts a variety of events, including workshops, seminars, and cultural festivities, which allow participants to cultivate the spirit of aloha while far from the islands. Events hosted by the E Ala E Hawaiian Cultural Center include hula classes choreographed by the award-winning Kumu Hula Kaleo Trinidad, cooking classes with Chef Ola from Aloha Crew, and a weekend of workshops with Uhi (Hawaiian tattoo) expert Keone Nunes. Additionally, the center is organizing an exciting Hawaiian cultural immersion huakaʻi (journey) to O’ahu in the summer of 2020, with special pricing for E Ala E members. In addition to cultural heritage events, E Ala E also emphasizes giving back to the local community, and host events which allow members to share aloha at senior centers, nursing homes, and other community service organizations. Preserving Hawaiian culture and giving back to the community are core elements of the Nakupuna Foundation’s organizational philosophy, and we are thrilled to preserve these values through our support of the E Ala E Hawaiian Cultural Center.
